Redstone Canyon Wildfire Mitigation & Forest Health

Redstone Canyon Wildfire Mitigation and Forest Health  April, 2009.

This message is intended for all residents and property owners in Redstone Canyon, Larimer County. Please be aware that there is an effort underway to organize a community-based working group to focus on the very closely related topics of wildfire mitigation and forest health. This working group is responding to the long-standing and very real risk of wildland fires, and most urgently to the sudden upsurge in tree infestations by the mountain pine beetle.

The objectives of this effort are:
1. Reduce the risk of wildfires occurring in Redstone Canyon, and reduce the severity of loss when fires do occur.
2. Stop, or least slow down, the spread of tree disease in Redstone Canyon. And otherwise protect the health of our beautiful landscapes.
3. Educate residents and property owners about these risks in order to gain cooperation for effective action.

Currently, the working group consists of property owners Ron Anthony, Dave Cawrse, Chet
Dykstra, Jerry Ellinghuysen, Tom Harr, Phil Kessler, Glen Liston, GayLene Rossiter, and
Pete Taylor. Included in this working group are experienced wildland firefighters, forest
service professionals, homeowners, and tree enthusiasts.
